eBECAS Language and Academic Results

Equator IT has designed eBECAS to provide maximum flexibility for both the storage and reporting of Language and Academic Results.

    Language Results

Language Results have a flexible structure. Results are designed to be stored and associated with a template. This may seem strange on first thought but works quite well. Typically there are several results that need to be stored with the progress of a student through a Language College course. These may include an entrance / score result to initally allocate the student to a class before the student starts formal classes, one or many interim results notation the grades and levels during testing for the student, and the final or exit result result. Ypur College may just have the one Language result template that is used for entrance tests, interim testing and a final test.

    Language Result templates

While the storage and reporting of Language Results and tests is completely flexible, I will show an effective way of using the facilities in eBECAS.

As background, Language classes run and are assisgned for up to 8 sessions. The sessions are displayed and defined in eBECAS - Main - Utilies - Setup Configuration - Language Sessions. Usually only up to four sessions are used and defined.

    Sessions

Students are generally assigned a general overall English Level. This can be the "raw" basis of assigning students to classes together with the student age, nationality, language spoken, and other students assigned to the class, together with the Language results.

    Language Levels

We can define Language result types.

    Language Result types

We can defined Language result custom fields. These can be accessed and used in custom templates for Cambridge Certificates for example.

    Language Result custom fields

We can define Language result groups. Result groups are the areas you wish to measure and post results on.

    Language Result groups

We can define the codes we use for each Language result group and the code's corresponding meaning. For example, we may have as displayed above result groups Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening. For the result group Reading we can enter result codes for example 1, 2 or A, B or whatever. We can then define text that corresponds to the code assigning meaning to the code. For example for the result group Reading, the result code 1 means "Comprehends only basic vocabulary, particularly related to his/her family and everyday objects, shops and regular activities".

    Language Result Codes

The above is the framework for the storage and reporting of Language Results. We now need to move to see where we use and enter the student's results. From the Enrolment details screen (1.3) move to the results page. You can see a example result entered below.

    Student Enrolment Language Result

The student enrolment results have been entered. The eBECAS user and date and time of entry is also stored. We can display the result details by pressing the modify button.

You will hopefully see the use and integration of the setup areas for Result type, level, Result types and result custom fields. Theses fields are simply setup from drop down lists of the codes entered. By using the Word Merge option, templates can be defined and use both or the code text.
